Dingdong Dantes in an international film

FREEHAND by Mario E. Bautista

DINGDONG DANTES is quiet about it but someone told us he has just finished a film in Cebu meant for international release. This is filmed with the youtube sensation Cebu dancing inmates and he’ll play a dancing prisoner himself, along with the British actor whose name they don’t want to mention yet. Clue: he was Julia Roberts abusive husband in “Sleeping with the Enemy” and he never got a bigger Hollywood role after that. As of now, Dingdong just feels jubilant as his “Endless Love” with Marian Rivera continues to soar in the ratings, especially now that they have seen each other again as Johnny and Jenny. The long lost “brother and sister” will soon be lovers in the next episodes. The problem is Johnny is now engaged to his girlfriend Yumi (Bella Padilla), while Andrew (Dennis Trillo) likes Jenny so much he kisses her. She cries and resigns from her work in the hotel-resort owned by Andrew’s family.

VIVA PRODUCTIONS moves into high gear in 2010’s third quarter in its commitment to the film industry and as a renewal of their promise when they first ventured into filmmaking in November, 1981 with “PS I Love You” starring the Sharon-Gabby love team. It has since introduced many big stars like Sharon, Robin Padilla, Sarah Geronimo, and made so many memorable hits now remade on TV like “Sinasamba Kita”, “Bituing Walang Ningning”, “Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan” and many more. More will come this year as Viva prepares for its 29th anniversary celebration. First is “Hating Kapatid” opening this Wednesday starring two box office queens: Judy Ann Santos and Sarah Geronimo. A family film directed by Wenn Deramas, it also stars Luis Manzano, JC De Vera, Gina Pareno, Tonton Gutierrez, Cherry Pie Picache and Vice Ganda. This will be followed in August by “In Your Eyes”, a co-prod with GMA, starring Richard Gutierrez, Anne Curtis and Claudine Barretto, directed by Mac Alejandre. Vice Ganda will then be launched in “Petrang Kabayo”, megged by Wenn Deramas, with Luis Manzano, Pokwang, Sam Pinto and Eugene Domingo. Aga Muhlach and Regine Velasquez (stars of past blockbusters “Dahil May Isang Ikaw” and “Pangako Ikaw Lamang”, are reunited in “Of All the Things”, directed by Joyce Bernal co-starring Mark Bautista and Nikki Bacolod.

Viva Films (which has 1,500 titles in its film catalogue) is part of Vivacom, which also includes Digital Viva, Viva Artist Agency (which manages Anne Curtis, Sarah Geronimo, Rachelle Ann Go, Jennylyn Mercado, Cristine Reyes, among others), Viva Concerts and Events, Viva Music Group, cable channels Viva Cinema and Pinoy Box Office, and Viva Video (Philippine licensee of 20th Century Fox, Universal and Buena Vista Home Entertainment). We heard Viva is also going into TV production and one of its first projects is a remake of the award-winning “Saan Nagtatago ang Pag-ibig”.

NO DOUBT John Lloyd Cruz (launched in 1997 by Star Magic after being discovered in a mall) is now ABS-CBN’s top male star with three consecutive Box Office King titles to his credit. His films are hits whether he’s paired with Bea Alonzo, Sarah Geronimo or Vilma Santos. He’s now doing ‘Imortal’ on TV with Angel Locsin, will do Star's Valentine offering with Sarah, and has 17 existing endorsements, the latest of which is his renewal of his contract with Cherry Mobile. Marketing head Agnes Conopio says Cherry was introduced only last year but due to John Lloyd’s endorsement, they rapidly expanded and now have five concept stores nationwide, the latest of which will open next week in Cagayan de Oro.

“I love Cherry as it’s a homegrown brand at Filipino ang may gawa,” says Lloydie. “I’m now using their Q5i, a dual SIM mobile with multimedia features and touchpad navigator. You can even play your fave music and videos with high quality audio.”

Will he recommend it to GF Shaina Magdayao? “Of course, noon ko pa ito binibigay to all my friends.”

How come there’s a story that he and Shaina are now living in? “Imbento lang yan. After umamin akong kami na, ayan naman, pinagli-live in na kami. I get along fine with her family and I will never betray their trust.”

AT THE LAUNCH of Vina Morales’ Ystilo Salon Corporation with Geoff Eigenmann as their new image model, Shaina’s older sister said she likes Lloydie. “Mabait siya. He attends our family affairs at tanggap siya ng family namin.” Vina also thanked him for admitting his relationship with Shaina in public. “It means a lot to our family kasi pagpapatunay yun na mahal niya si Shaina at hindi niya hahayaan ang mga tao na basta patuloy itong husgahan. Being a sister, I’m very happy for both of them and I respect him for doing that. Thankful ako sa ginawa niyang yun.”

Vina’s Ystilo Salon continues to offer beauty prices at reasonable prices and they also put up branches nationwide. For franchising, you can get in touch with them at Unit B, Gil Preciosa Bldg. 2, 75 Timog Ave., Quezon City.

KIM CHIU IS Cherry Mobile’s new female endorser for their Kikay Phone, the X90 Blush. So why did they get Kim? “She’s one of our most sought after young actresses today with a wholesome image so she’s our only choice,” says Agnes Conopio. “We waited for her for six months.”

“I love the Blush as its ideal for young girls like me with a busy lifestyle and have to communicate all the time,” says Kim. “Also, it has so many features like an MP3-MP4 player, FM radio, and even a software helping you chart your whole menstrual cycle and Body Mass index.”

Will she give one to Gerald Anderson? “Yes, ibibigay ko sa kanya yung may menstrual cycle,” she laughs.

The fans of their Kimerald love team are very aggressive in asking ABS to give them a new project right after “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo” has ended, denouncing any plan to pair them with other stars. “We already told them to trust the ABS management as they know best how to run our careers,” she says. “Kaya lang, sobrang loyal talaga sila. They don’t want us to be separated.”

Is it true she got jealous when Gerald was linked to newcomer Sam Pinto? “Hindi akong nagseselos but our fans when they learn he’ll be paired with her. Wala ngayon si Gerald, nagbabakasyon sa family niya in Gen San.”
