at the GUERRERO DOS presscon with direk carlo cuevas and cast members

EAGLE BROADCASTING CORPORATION of the Iglesia ni Cristo has put up its own film arm, EBC Films, and their mission is to produce inspirational films that imparts good values to viewers. So far, they’ve done two films: “Guerrero” and “Hapi ang Buhay, The Musical”. “Guerrero” won the Best Feature Comedy Film award in the Amsterdam International Film Festival of World Cinema held last year and its lead actor, Julio Sabermorio, won the child performer of the year award in the 34th PMPC Star Awards.

“Guerrero” is the heartwarming story of two brothers, Ramon (played by Iglesia actor Genesis Gomez), a boxer, and his younger brother, Miguel (played by Julio). It show their struggles and triumphs in life. It’s written and directed by Carlo Ortega Cuevas who has already won critical acclaim for his first movie, “Walang Take Two”.

“Hapi ang Buhay” is a musical film based on the comedy series on INC’s TV station, Net 25. A satire on Filipino life, it’s written and directed by Carlo Cuevas and stars Antonio Aquitania, Victor Neri and Mike Magat in singing and dancing roles like you have never seen them before.

“The ultimate reason why we in EBC films are making movies is to promote good values. And I believe that promoting positive values doesn’t have to be boring. So we are trying our best to educate and inspire the audience without sacrificing entertainment values,” the energetic Cuevas says.

EBC hosted a victory party at the Movie Stars Cafe in Centris for the success of both “Guerrero” and “Hapi ang Buhay” which have been shown all over the country and in several countries abroad. They have a ready market in all the INC communities all over the globe, including the USA, Canada, U.K., Europe, Middle East and various Asian countries. At the victory party, they also announced that they’re coming up with a sequel to “Guerrero” entitled “Guerrero Dos, Tuloy ang Laban”.

“Ang dami kasing nagsasabing bitin sila sa first ‘Guerrero’ movie and they want to find out what happened to the two brothers,” says Direk Carlo. “So now, we’re bringing them back, with Genesis Gomez and Julio Sabermorio reprising their roles as Ramon and Miguel Guerrero. This new movie will be set in a hospital and Julio will serve as an inspiration to the sad patients there, lifting their spirits up. New additions in the cast are Art de Guzman as an old man whose wife suffers from depression and Mia Suarez as a nurse who’s having some problems and Julio will help them.”

Isn’t his films preachy? “Well, our films impart serious, good messages and positive values, but we try to do it in a light and entertaining way para madaling matanggap ng audience. The key is simplicity and sincerity in sharing whatever it is you want to share with your viewers.”
