Jasmine Curtis Smith Gets Great Feedback For Her Short But Meaty Role As The Young Manisan In 'Sahaya'

JASMINE CURTIS SMITH gets her second show from GMA-7 in “Sahaya” after she appeared in “Pamilya Roces”. Some folks now wonder why she accepted to play a mother role to Bianca Umali in the story and even her sister, Anne Curtis, has called on GMA to her more substantial shows.

“But Bianca and I don’t appear naman together in the show,” she says. “Sa akin magsisimula ang story with my role as Manisan, which will be played later by Mylene Dizon. I’m happy to be part of the show kasi first time ko play na isang katutubo, member ng indigenous tribe called the Badjaos. Before the taping started, I studied their culture and tradition, along with the other members of the cast, and it’s very enlightening. I even did a Badjao dance workshop. I hope the show will make us understand our Badjao brothers even  more.”

As the young Manisan, she’ll fall in love with a Manila boy, played by Gil Cuerva, and gets impregnated by him. But she’s betrothed to marry another Badjao guy, played by Benjamin Alves, whose mother, Snooky Serna, oppresses her.  “Kahit maikli ang role ko, I’m very happy with it,” adds Jasmine.

Jasmine Curtis Smith as MANISAN in SAHAYA
“Marami kaming dramatic scenes ni Ms. Snooky Serna and I enjoyed working with her. I already had my last taping day and the show is really promising in showing us a beautiful culture with its own traditions and the challenges they face in modern times.  My character as the young Manisan is now added to my list of favorites. Manisan nga pala means maganda or beautiful in their language.”

Feedback on Jasmine’s acting in “Sahaya” for the first two nights of the show are all positive. “Sahaya” itself got very positive response from viewers for its well produced pilot week. Netizens lauded Jasmine’s credible portrayal of a Badjao maiden and even praised her Badjao makeup in her wedding scene with Benjamin Alves.

About her lovelife, Jasmine’s relationship with non-showbiz BF Jeff Ortega of the La Union political clan remains going strong. He celebrated his 29th birthday last  Tuesday in La Union.

Jasmine wasn’t able to go there as she’s busy with work, but she sent him a sweet message on social media and thanked him for his “unli-understanding.” She promised she will make “bawi” or make up for it when he returns to Manila. They just had a vacation together in Europe recently.
