JODI STA. MARIA was having a severe case of sore throat when she attended the presscon of her new movie, "Man and Wife", but she shows she's truly professional by answering all questions thrown her way even if her voice is very hoarse. "Nag-Holy Week kami sa Thailand and I think I got a bug there causing this sore throat," she says.
She gets to work for the first time with Gabby Concepcion as leading man and Laurice Guillen as their director in Cineko Productions’ special Mother Day’s offering, “Man and Wife”. So how did it feel working with them?
“I must admit I was, at first, intimidated by both of them,” she says. “But they both made me feel at ease very quickly and I’m now very thankful for the memorable experience of being able to work with them. Si Gabby, magaling siya and he’s very humble even if he’s way ahead of me in the industry. Si Direk Laurice, it’s a great learning experience being directed by her in this film.”
But she was surprised that on the very first day of her shooting with them, Direk Laurice quickly made her do a love scene with Gabby. “Ang hirap kasi I don’t usually do love scenes. But dito, mag-asawa kami, so it’s required in the story. Mahirap din kasi di pa man ako nakakapag-warm up kay Gabby and yet, magla-love scene na kami agad. I don’t even know how to hold him or kiss him. But in fall fairness to him, he is such a gentleman. Siyang nagdala ng eksena, laging nakaalalay and never na nag-take advantage. After that, everything went on smoothly na.”
What is her concept of a married couple being “Man and Wife”? “Nasa Bible yun, di ba? When you get married, you become one as man and wife. In every aspect of your life as a couple, dapat, iisa kayo, lalo na when it comes to decision-making. In the movie, the characters we play ni Gabby, Luisa and Carding, their relationship is put into a lot of trials, especially with in law problems dahil sa domineering mom niya played by Liza Lorena, but they try to get through it all as ‘Man and Wife’.”
Lot of netizens praise Jodi for her friendly relationship with her ex-husband, Pampi Lacson, and his current wife, former GMA star Iwa Moto. “It wasn’t easy. You really have to work on it. But I’m really glad we’re in good terms.”
She and her ex-boyfriend, Cavite Vice gov. Jolo Revilla, were on for more than five years, but they finally broke up last year. Now, it’s rumored that Jolo is officially engaged to his current squeeze, beauty queen Angelica Alita. What can she say about this?
“I don’t think it’d be proper for me to comment,” she demurs. “You know naman na we’re no longer together.”
