Yasmien Kurdi In A New Soap, 'Hiram Na Anak', And Is About To Graduate From College

YASMIEN KURDI has her own loyal followers who support and watch all her soaps regularly to make them topraters, just like “Yagit”, “Sa Piling ni Nanay” and “Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka” that all became hits and had extended runs. “Hindi Ko Kaya” even won for her the Star best drama actress award in October.

“Yes, memorable sa’kin ang ‘Hindi Ko Kaya’ because of the acting award that I received for it,” she says. “But more than that, natutuwa ako sa show kasi it’s an advocaserye that fostered audience awareness about being the realities of being HIV positive. Marami talaga ang nag-message sa’kin at nagpasalamat na, dahil sa show, naliwanagan sila tungkol sa AIDS virus.”

After “Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan”, she did a guest role in the first two weeks of “Cain at Abel” as Belen, the mother of kids Daniel and Elias who’d later grow up to be Dingdong Dantes and Dennis Trillo. Now, she has a new afternoon show that has already started taping, “Hiram na Anak”, to be directed by hit maker Gil Tejada.

“The story is very dramatic, about two mothers fighting for the love of a little girl, played by child actress Leanne Bautista,” she says. “Makakasama ko rito for the first time si Lauren Young, and we have two leading men, Paolo Contis and Dion Ignacio, plus Maey Bautista. Si Paolo, I got to work with him in ‘Yagit’ before at si Dion naman, ka-batch ko sa very first Starstruck and the last time we got to work together was ten years ago in ‘Saan Darating ang Umaga’. So it’s really nice to work with Dion after so long. Ang kaibhan lang, ngayon, pareho na kaming parents kasi may anak na kami. May baby girl na siya at ang anak ko namang si Ayesha, six years old na.”

Yasmien is one actress who’s career and lovelife are both doing well. She has steady assignments from her home network, GMA-7, and she has a happy marital life with her husband Rey Soldevilla. They just spent their first Christmas together in the new house they bought in Paranaque.

And now, Yasmien has a new feather on her cap. She’s about to graduate from college. She was then taking up nursing but her studies had to take a backseat when she got busy with her showbiz assignments. She later went back to school and shifted to majoring in political science at Arellano University. Now, she is slated to graduate this coming April.

“Finally, I’m about to graduate,” she says excitedly. “It’s not easy to balance my studies with career and family, but I was able to do it and I’m so proud of myself! Ang lahat ng hirap, puyat at pagod na pinagdaanan ko para lang makatapos sa pag-aaral habang nagtatrabaho, it’s all worth it. Matutupad ko na rin ang dream ng mother ko for me to get a college diploma. I’m so thankful to the Lord for helping me achieve all my dreams and goals in life.”
