Carlo Aquino Nervous About His Leading Man Role In 'Meet Me In St. Gallen' But Thanks Bela Padilla For Being So Supportive

CARLO AQUINO started as a child actor on “Ang TV” in 1992 and did prestige films like “Bata, Bata, Paano Ka Ginawa” and “Kahapon May Dalawang Bata” for which he won awards. In his teens, he did youth oriented shows like “Kaybol”, “Cyberkada” and “G-Mik” and acclaimed films like “Bagong Buwan” and “Minsan May Isang Puso”.

As a grown up, he did mostly supporting and character roles, although he did acclaimed indie films like “Sa Aking Pagkagising sa Kamulatan”, “Tuli” and the more recent Cinema One entry “Throwback Today”. He was paired with Cristine Reyes in Viva’s mainstream horror film “Tumbok” and now, he gets to be leading man again in “Meet Me in St. Gallen” as Bela Padilla’s love interest. He admits he had apprehensions and feels so much pressure about this project.

“Kasi nga, romantic drama, tapos akong bida,” he says. “But although natetensiyon ako, I’m happy na sa’kin napunta ang role ko as Jesse kasi challenging siya. Mahilig ako rito sa music, kumanta, pero ang gusto ng dad kong si Nonie Buencamino, magdoktor ako. Then I met Bela na kare-resign din lang sa trabaho niya and we talked seriously about our lives. May kuneksyon agad between us.”

So how is it working with Bela? “Masarap katrabaho kasi mapagbigay siya sa eksena. Hindi siya umaalis sa set at nandun lang siya para umalalay kahit hindi na siya kasali sa eksena. She really supported me and for that, I’m thankful.”

Angelica Panganiban is not part of the movie but her presence was felt at the presscon because of the speculation that they might reconcile after they made a series of tweets about each other. In his tweet, Carlo wrote: “Matalik na kaibigan, maaari ba kitang maging matalik na pag-ibig?” And fans quickly concluded it’s meant for Angelica, his GF during their G-Mik days when they were still teenagers.

Angelica is now still hurting from her heartbreak over John Lloyd Cruz while Carlo has also split from his non-showbiz girlfriend, Kristine Nieto, of seven years just three months ago. “Ayoko munang pag-usapan yan,” Carlo evades. “It’s too early. Tingnan na lang natin kung ano ang puedeng mangyari. Malaking tulong ang shooting namin ng ‘Meet Me in St. Gallen’ sa Europe para makapag-isip ako and do some soul searching.”

Wasn’t he the one who sent Angelica a bouquet of flowers recently that went viral on social media after Angelica posted its photo? “Ay, hindi po ako yun. Wala po akong ipinapadala. As of now, nursing a broken heart pa rin ako, so respetuhin na lang natin si Angelica gayundin ang ex ko kasi wala naman sila dito para sumagot tungkol sa side nila.”
