Former Award-Winning Child Actress Isabelle De Leon Now Plays A Contravida Role In GMA-7's 'Super Ma'am'

ISABELLE DE LEON started as a child actress on GMA-7 in the show “Munting Anghel” in 2000 when she was 6 years old. In 2001, she became a mainstay in the GMA-7 sitcom, “Daddy Di Do Du” where she became known as Duday, the youngest child of Vic Sotto. She also did many movies as a child actress, like “Bahay ni Lola”, “Ano Bang Meron Ka”, “Super B” but her most memorable movie is “Magnifico” where she played Jiro Manio’s younger sister who is afflicted with cerebral palsy. For this role, she won many best child actress awards.

She was without an assignment during her awkward tween years but resurfaced at ABS-CBN when she was 14 to do “Nasaan Ka, Elisa”. She appeared in other ABS-CBN shows like “Maalaala Mo Kaya”, “Ipaglaban Mo” and “Maria Mercedes”, then moved to TV5 to do “Trenderas”. She also became a recording artist for PolyEast Records.

Last year, she moved back to GMA-7 as kontrabida to Louise de los Reyes in “Magkaibang Mundo”. Now, her latest assignment is “Super Ma’am”, where she plays the tamawo sidekick of Kim Domingo. Isabelle has the looks fit for a lead actress so we don’t know why she’s just relegated to playing villain roles.

“Okay lang naman po yun,” she says. “Baka di ko pa lang time magbida. Basta ang ginagawa ko, pinagbubutihan ko kahit anong role ang ibigay nila sa akin. I think it’s important na you always give your 100 percent best in every performance you do.”

She’s just happy to be part of “Super Ma’am” and get the chance to work with Marian Rivera. “Maganda naman yung role ko rito as a tamawo, an evil creature na nagkukunwaring tao. I act like a cosplayer para cover up sa pagiging tamawo ko at tauhan ako rito ng reyna naming si Jackielou Blanco na siyang nagpalaki kay Kim Domingo, who is actually a human na sister ni Marian Rivera.”

Despite her busy schedule in showbiz, Isabelle is not neglecting her studies. She’s now taking up mass communications at Trinity University. Later on, she wants to major on filmmaking so she can also work behind the camera. “Kumuha na ako ng scriptwriting workshop at later, mag-aaral ako ng directing so I can be a writer-director for movies or TV someday. Dito na ako nagdalaga sa industriyang ito so hindi ko na iiwan ito, whether I’m working before or behind the cameras.”
