IZA CALZADO says 2017 started really well for her. She has a new movie, “Ilawod”, to be shown starting January 18, and she has a new primetime soap that started airing on January 9, “A Love to Last”. “It’s the best way to start the year right,” she says. “Very productive kasi busy ka with work.”
She has played a lot of challenging roles before but she finds her role in the horror flick “Ilawod” (which means the downstream current of a river) as one of the most demanding so far. “I play Kathy, the wife of Ian Veneracion as Dennis and mother of our two children, Harvey Bautista as Ben and Xyriel Manabat as Bea,” she says. “We live a peaceful life until one day, si Ian, who’s a reporter, came home from the mountains after covering an event involving exorcism, without knowing na naisama pala niyang umuwi sa bahay namin yung water element or nymph called Ilawod. Unti-unting magugulo ang family namin kasi gusto ng Ilawod na siya ang mag-dominate sa aming family to manipulate all of us. As the mother, siempre, very protective ako and I will do everything para
ipagtanggol ang mga anak ko. Naiibang horror movie ang ‘Ilawod’ so those who love scary movies will really enjoy watching this. Magaling kasi ang director naming si Dan Villegas in cooking up eerie and spooky scenes. I’ve done horror films before pero iba itong ‘Ilawod’ in that it will really give the viewers the most frightening time of their lives.”
Direk Dan Villegas himself praises Iza. “Napakagaling din namang aktres ni Iza, lalo na in conveying horror. Her eyes are so very expressive at very convincing lalo na sa mga eksena ng katatakutan. Sa bagay, lahat silang mga artista ko rito sa ‘Ilawod’, puro magagaling talaga and they made my job as a director much easier.”In “A Love to Last,” Iza also plays Ian V’s wife. “Pero hiwalay na kami rito sa soap,” says Iza. “Magkakaroon siya ng bagong love interest, si Bea Alonzo, but then babalik ako as the wife to mess up their lives.”
