He’s really lucky because he’s only the second runner up in Starstruck 6 but he’s now the most successful discovery in their batch. The winner, Stephen Silva, and the 1st runner up, Enzo Pineda, have both left GMA-7, including the female winner, Sarah Lahbati. “I guess it pays to be loyal and to just keep on working hard and doing your best,” he quips.
He plays the role of Aquil in “Encantadia”. How did they feel when their show edged out their rival in the ratings game? “Siempre, palakpakan kaming lahat, the whole team was jubilant. Mas ginanahan kaming magtrabaho. At sana, mas marami pang manood now na it’s not a requel anymore but a retelling na with new stories.”
So how is Sanya Lopez as Danaya, his love interest? “She’s okay. Magkasama lang kami sa workshop kanina.”
The show’s fans seem to like them a lot and are following their daily exchanges on Twitter, calling their romance a Twitterserye. “Yes, the feedback is encouraging. Parami nang parami ang fans ng love team nina Aquil at Danaya and parami rin nang parami ang mga eksena namin ni Sanya together. May mga nagre-request na nga na sana, huwag na lang patayin si Aquil, kasi sa original, he was killed. But what we have now is a retelling. So may new twists na in the story and you’ll never know what will happen next.”
So what’s the real score now between him and Sanya? “I’m really getting to like her. She’s very attractive and I like her passion and enthusiasm for her work. I enjoy her contagious laughter and I admire her eagerness to learn. I can feel that she’s very focused on her career kaya naman
tinutulungan ko siya, lalo na sa fight scenes. Both of us kasi are warriors at marami kaming action scenes so I make it a point na alalayan ko siya. But as to where all this is going, let’s see. Mahaba pa naman ang itatakbo ng show dahil until next year pa kami, e. As of now, though, I can feel na pareho kami, career muna ang focus, lalo na ako, dahil marami pa akong roles na hindi nagagawa. Dream ko pa to have my own album, and there’s a plan for our successful ‘Oh Boy’ concert to do a provincial tour and in May, there’s an invitation to take it abroad kapag tapos na ang ‘Encantadia’.”
Her ex, Lovi Poe, has been quoted that if it’s true that he and Sanya are an item, then she’s happy for them. How about him? Is she happy for Lovi and her reported new foreigner BF whose photos she has posted on her social media account?
“Hindi ko pa nakikita yung photos nila. Kasi I don’t follow her anymore. Basta she played an important part in my life before, but I have already accepted na hindi siya talaga para sa akin and I have moved on. Ayokong masabing bitter ako. Nagulat lang ako when she broke up with me, but I realized, what’s the better way to show that you really love someone than to willingly let her go. Maging masaya ka na lang para sa kanya.”
What if GMA would pair them again in a new show? “Okay lang for me to work with her, pero siguro, mag-workshop muna kami.”
