Sharon Cuneta, Lea Salonga, Regine Velasquez And Other Top Stars Join Forces To Pay Tribute To Teachers In PLDT-Smart Gabay Guro Grand Show On September 25 At The MOA Arena

SHARON CUNETA, Lea Salonga, Regine Velasquez, Pops Fernandez, Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Ogie Alcasid, James Reid, Nadine Lustre, Jaya and Michael Pangilinan and Jona Viray (who sang “Hero” at the press launch) are some of the top celebrities who are volunteering gratis et amore to entertain the teachers who’ll come from all over the country to the Gabay Guro’s 9th year of Tribute Show to Teachers to be held at the MOA Arena on September 25 this National Teacher’s month.

This whole day affair will be capped with raffle prizes like a house and lot from Perry’s Group of Companies, Gratour Van from Foton, motorcycles from Honda and Suzuki, and other prizes from Penshoppe, National Bookstore, Enchanted Kingdom, Flanax, Bic, Gardenia and other sponsors. Admission is free but exclusive for teachers only.

PLDT exec Gary Dujali says the Gabay Guro project started 9 years ago when PLDT and Smart executives thought of this advocacy to help change and improve the lives of unsung heroes like teachers who touch the lives of all of us. Since then, Gabay Guro has conducted extra training for over 16,000 teachers all over the country in 8 training programs that include English Proficiency, Leadership Training, Information Technology, EQ (Emotional Intelligence) Improvement, Unleashing Creativity in Teaching, etc.

They have also constructed new classrooms in disaster stricken areas like Cebu, Bohol, Leyte and Capiz. They’ve also given laptops and broadband connectivity to various schools and put up a scholarship program for future teachers. So far, they’ve helped in graduating 1,100 scholars nationwide, 137 of whom graduated with honors as cum laude or magna cum laude.

Gabay Guro started with 900 member teachers and now, they have 20,000 members already. Chaye Revilla, one of the leading lights of Gabay Guro, says: “Our nation’s children depend on our nation’s teachers to guide them to a better future. This teacher’s month, Gabay Guro pays tribute to them who teach and nurture our next generation of nation builders.”
