Why Robi Domingo Prefers To Focus On Hosting Than Acting

ROBI DOMINGO is always flattered when he is compared as a host to Luis Manzano. “Siempre, Luis Manzano yun, the host par excellence,” he says. “He’s the number one host on local TV right now and he's doing so many shows.”

Robi was discovered 8 years ago as one of the housemates in PBB Teen Edition 2008. He didn’t win (he’s just a runner up to Ejay Falcon), but he’s now recognized as a very competent host. He could have gone into acting but he chose to be a host. “I’m really more at home sa hosting kaysa sa acting,” he says.

He adds that his decision not to act is also because his girlfriend, Gretchen Host (also a TV host), is the jealous type who’d cry and sulk when he does romantic scenes with another actress, like when he did a love scene in “Kahit Puso’y Masugatan”. This can only mean he’s now very much into a serious relationship with Gretchen. Do we hear wedding bells ringing for them soon?

“It will come naman, but as of now, it’s still very early,” he says. “Nai-imagine kong mangyayari yun, my proposal and the actual wedding, kasi three years na rin kaming on, but not now. We don’t need to rush, lalo ngayon we’re both so busy at magkakaroon pa siya ng isang bagong show.”

Robi is currently hosting “The Voice Kids” and Knowledge Channel’s “MathDali” that starts airing on Tuesday, June 14. Gretchen, in turn, is a host on ANC, doing ‘Mornings@ANC’, ‘The Daily Serve’ and soon, the new show, ‘Modern Girls’.

“I love hosting ‘MathDali’ kasi I’ve always loved Math even as a kid,” he adds. “Here, we help students overcome their fear of Math. Kasama ko rito sina Igi Boy Flores, Vic Robinson III, and twins Joj and Jai Agpangan to help viewers to learn to love math and master the subject while doing some fun adventures.”

He originally wanted to be a doctor, like his dad Roberto Domingo who’s a surgeon and his mom Mary Ann Delgado Domingo who’s a pediatrician. Now, that he’s in showbiz, has he forsaken his dream of following in his parents’ footsteps? “No, nandiyan lang siya. I can still go back to school and pursue a medical course anytime, kasi tapos na naman ako ng pre-med.”
