Ruru Madrid Not Rushing To Be In A Serious Relationship With Ka-Love Team Gabbi Garcia

RURU MADRID is playing a character older than his real age (18) in GMA-7’s political satire, “Naku, Boss Ko”, that starts airing on Monday at 10 PM. “I play Jon G, who becomes a hero in the eyes of the public when a video showing me saving someone from a fire becomes viral on the internet,” he says. “Dahil dito, pinatakbo akong mayor in our town, called Malaya. Ang father ko, Leo Martinez, ran several times before pero laging talo. Ang akin namang campaign manager is played by Tessie Tomas. I will meet some opposition from Gabbi Garcia as Che, an activist who hates traditional politicians.”

Produced by GMA News and Public Affairs and directed by Marlon Rivera of “Babae sa Septic Tank”, the show is more of a comedy. “Nanibago kami pareho ni Gabbi kasi mas sanay kami sa drama,” Ruru adds. “E, ito, more of a rom-com, very light lang, pero may matinding patama sa marami nating politicians na tumatakbo ngayon sa darating na election. Without mentioning actual names, I think mare-recognize ng viewers kung sino ang iba’t ibang politicians na ini-spoof namin. Buti na lang we work with comedians like Tito Leo and Tita Tessie and we really learn a lot from them kung paano aatakihin ang aming roles. Pag nagmumukhang drama ang ginagawa namin, they remind us to lighten up.”

Is he endorsing any candidate? “No, bawal sa GMA Artist Center. Kung may preferences man ako, I’d rather keep it to myself.”

Right after “Naku, Boss Ko”, Ruru will go to the taping of the “Encantadia” remake, where he plays Ybarro, played by Dingdong Dantes no less in the original. But some quarters say he’s too young to play the role and he’s not buff like Dingdong then.

“I know may hindi aprubado sa akin, so it’s up to me to show them na hindi nagkamali ang GMA in giving the Ybarro role to me. Nagwo-work out na ako ngayon para maging more physically fit for the role. Sa lahat ng mga kumukuwestiyon sa akin, all I can say is give me a chance naman to prove myself muna bago nyo ako husgahan.”

He’s also reunited with Gabbi who plays Alena in “Encantadia 2016”. The fans of their love team are expecting that they’ll soon confess that they’re really on. “Wala pa kaming aaminin. We’re both teenagers, lalo siya, 16 pa lang, napakabata pa, so we’re just really more focused on cultivating our careers now kasi sa aming lovelife.”
