CURRENTLY SHOWING on TV5 every Tuesday are two hit U.S. television shows starring women who kick ass: “Scandal” and “Nikita”. We’ve seen them and they’re both certainly worth watching. “Scandal” is a political thriller with Kerry Washington (who won the Screen Actors Guild best actress award for this show) plays Olivia Pope, a lawyer who has a crisis management firm.

She used to work with U.S. President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) as his communications director and they used to be lovers. Her team gets to solve various cases in the course of the show, including the mystery surrounding the involvement of Amanda Tanner (Liza Weil) in the White House and the assassination attempt on the president which almost killed him. Produced by Shonda Rhimes who also did the hit “Grey’s Anatomy”, you will be hooked by “Scandal” because of its great plotting with so many twists. No wonder it’s now on its 6th season.

“Nikita”, in turn, is an action-packed show about a woman (played by the very agile and sexy Maggie Q) who is rescued and recruited from death row and trained by a secret government agency known as Division to be a highly trained assassin. She thought she’d be given a new life but things only get worse for her so she escapes, goes into hiding for three years, then returns with the intention of taking revenge and bringing down the Division.

Based on Luc Besson’s hit movie, “Le Femme Nikita”, the TV series’ action sequences are truly quite impressive no wonder it gained a lot of fans that made it run for 4 seasons. “Scandal” is now being shown Tuesdays at 7 PM while “Nikita” follows it at 8 PM.

PAOLO BALLESTEROS just returned to “Eat Bulaga” after being suspended for five months for remarks he made about some advertisers in the Subic Ad Congress last year. You can say he returned with a bang as he was first seen on cam while on the top of a truck singing the Black Eyed Peas song, “Where is the Love?”

And judging from the very positive reaction of viewers on social media (he even trended on Twitter), it looks like they really missed him so much since he unceremoniously left last March and they now appreciate his return to the number one noontime show. Paolo says he learned so much from the experience.

“Unang-una, natutuhan kong huwag magmaldita,” he says. “And that it’s true na everything happens for a reason. While I’m away from ‘Eat Bulaga’, I had time to do two new movies, ‘Die Beautiful’ for IdeaFirst Company and ‘Bakit Lahat ng Guwapo May Boyfriend” for Viva, both directed by Jun Lana who, I can say, brings out the best in me. Tapos yung ginagawa kong make up transformations ng iba’t ibang artista, lalo na ‘Game of Thrones’ stars, napansin pati sa ibang bansa and it’s now opening doors for me for a reality show.

THE PRESSCON for “The Greatest Love” was held two months ago, but after that, nothing was heard about it. We thought it would replace “We Will Survive” but it turned out that “Minute to Win” was the one that replaced it and “The Greatest Love” was shelved for a while. “After nung presscon, hindi naman kami nakapag-taping,” says Arron Villaflor when we bumped into him.

But now, it’s finally being aired as replacement for “Tubig at Langin” in the afternoon slot. We’re happy for Sylvia Sanchez who plays the lead role of the mother, Gloria, who gets afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 59. This is her first lead role and we’re sure she’ll be good in it. “Mabigat yung role at maraming mahihirap na eksena,” says Sylvia. “Binabasa ko pa lang ang script, naiiyak na ako.”

Playing her four children in the story are Dimples Romana as the eldest and rebellious Amanda, Matt Evan as the gay Andrei, Arron as the musician Paeng and Andi Eigenmann as the caring youngest child, Lizelle. Also in the show is Joshua Garcia as the son of Dimples and Sylvia’s protective grandchild.

Ricky Lee is the show’s creative consultant and also in the cast are Rommel Padilla, Tonton Gutierrez, Nonie Buencamino, Bobby Andrews, Alex Medina, Mercedes Cabral, Junjun Quintana, plus Ejay Falcon and Ellen Adarna in special guest roles, directed by Jeffrey Jeturian and Dado Lumibao.

JULIE ANNE SAN JOSE finally has a new soap, “Pinulot Ka Lang sa Lupa”, after her last outing as a drama actress in “Buena Familia” which ended in March. This is a remake of an old Regal movie directed by the late Ishmael Bernal in 1987. The new director is Gina Alajar and Julie Anne will reprise Angeli, the role originally played by Maricel Soriano. She’ll be paired with Benjamin Alves as Ephraim, originally played by Gabby Concepcion.

This is the first show together of Julie Anne and Benjamin ever since it was reported that they are romantically involved after they were paired in the music video of Julie Anne’s current hit song from her album. For sure, the fans of their budding love team will be rejoicing now that they can both be seen together onscreen in a regular show.

Also in the cast of the old movie was Lorna Tolentino as Santina. Her role will now be played by LJ Reyes (her first project after winning two best actress awards for “Anino sa Likod ng Buwan”). Supporting Julie Anne, Benjamin and LJ in the TV remake are Jean Garcia, Victor Neri, Martin del Rosario, Koreen Medina and newcomer Lharby Policarpio.

Maybe you’d ask: who is Lharby? He is the co-star of JC Santos in “Esprit de Corp” where they had a controversial nude scene. JC is now a promising star at ABS-CBN because of his inclusion in the cast of “Till I Met You”. Let’s see if Lharby would be able to follow in his footsteps now that he’s with GMA-7.

BARBIE FORTEZA says she’s not scared if ever Kris Aquino would join them in “Sunday Pinasaya”, which is celebrating its first anniversary. “If ever she’d be a guest in the show, sana ma-handle niya ako,” she quips. “Guest ko siya so hindi siya puedeng magsalita. Joke! Sa totoo lang, kung totoong magiging Kapuso na siya, siempre excited ako. Queen of All Media siya, di ba? Baka ma-star struck ako. But I will re-introduce myself again. Kasi nag-meet na kami noon sa ‘Little Bossings’. Ewan ko lang kung natatandaan pa niya ako. Bakit naman ako matatakot makaharap siya, e hindi ko naman siya binabastos kapag ginagaya ko siya. Wala namang intensiyon ang ‘Sunday Pinasaya’ to insult her. Gusto lang naming magpasaya ng viewers. Di ba imitation is the highest form of flattery? So parang tribute nga namin ito sa kanya. I’m really so happy to be part of ‘Sunday Pinasaya’ at ayan nga, unang anibersaryo na namin. We will have a two-part anniversary show on September 4 and 11 kaya abangan nyo dahil sobrang ganda ng numbers na inihanda namin. Sana mas tumagal pa ang show so, we’ll have more anniversaries to celebrate.”

When asked about her BF Kiko Estrada, Barbie hemmed and hawed before saying: “I’m single and happy.”

So she’s not in relationship anymore? “Wala na.”
Whatever happened to her and Kiko? “Well, ayoko munang magsalita. Ayoko munang pag-usapan. Basta ayoko. Hanggang dun na lang.”
Did she cry over it? “Secret!”

Korean TV personality Jinri Park will act as backstage reporters and also segment host.

"This is a great opportunity for our local talents to be recognized not only here in the Philippines but also in Korea dahil ipalalabas din sa Seoul ang aming show," says Richard. "The top finalists will even be brought there later for training at kasama ko kaya excited ako kasi first time ko to visit Korea."

Joining Richard as the judges are Gelli de Belen, Rico Blanco, and Kevin Woo of UKiss. There will be a different Korean judge from the successful K-Pop industry every week. "Actually, hindi lang ako ang fan ng Korean stars but also my sister Janice. Nagulat nga si Richard nang magkakuwentuhan kami at ang dami ko sa kanyang nai-share na information about K-Pop stars."

CAMILLE PRATS is now with the whole Prats Family celebrating Christmas in the U.S., so she won’t be around at the presscon of her new soap, “Second Chances”, that starts airing mid-January. But before she left, she taped some advanced episodes for her hit women’s show on GNTV, “Mars”, which she co-hosts of Suzi Entrata. Tonight at 7 PM, they’ll discuss an important topic with Yassi Pressman and Shalala: do you turn your officemates off just because you do your job as expected? They’ll give you valid advice about this. Yassi then shows how to cook her special dish of baked chicken with macaroni. They’ll also give tips on what to do when someone chokes.

Tomorrow night, their guests are two stars from the Metro filmfest entry, “Kubot: Aswang Chronicles 2”: beauty queen Hanna Ledesma (who replaced Lovi Poe as Dingdong Dantes’ wife) and Lotlot de leon.
