Her last movies were indie films, “Straight from the Heart” and “Apocalypse Child”. She got acting nominations for the latter as the leading lady of Sid Lucero and RK Bagatsing. “Mahirap itong ‘Goyo’ kasi my lines in the screenplay is written in old Tagalog so I got myself a teacher in Filipino kasi gusto ko, maging fluent yung delivery ko on screen.”
How was it working with Direk Jerrold Tarog? “I was scared noong umpisa kasi he’s very quiet on the set. But as the shooting went on, he might seem serious, but he also has a lighter side. I saw his vision as a director for Goyo. He doesn’t want to just put him on a pedestal as a hero. He wants people to see Goyo’s human side as a person, a friend, a lover, a leader, all the important aspects of his personality to make him truly three-dimensional. I was really amazed at the entire production kasi parang I’m working on a Hollywood set, from the call sheet they give the actors na everything is indicated, including all the shots where you will be included and what time this will be shot, like the medium shot at 8 AM, then the close up at 9AM, ganun ka-detailed. Yung set namin ng isang buong town reconstructed in a backlot in Tarlac complete with church, market, various houses and municipal hall, parang nagbalik ka talaga sa nakaraan. Even the costumes we wore are authentic. My baro at saya had four layers of clothing. Siguro, before, we had a cooler climate. But not now, kasi sobrang init na niya sa katawan.”Is it her first time to work with Paulo Avelino? “No, before he left GMA-7, we got to work in ‘Alakdana’ and he was even my first screen kiss, so magkakilala na kami and it’s really nice to work with him again in a mammoth superproduction like ‘Goyo’ which we’ll be proud of for the rest of our lives.”
Gwen remains going steady with Jeremy Marquez. They were supposed to officially tie the knot some time ago but they had to postpone it. No reason was given but we heard it’s because Jeremy’s first marriage when he was very young was not yet officially annulled.
