“That was to celebrate my 10th anniversary in showbiz,” he says. “This one will be in time for the relase of my second album, which is also titled ‘Hey Matteo’.”
His concert at Kia Theatre will have Rowell Santiago as stage director and Louie Ocampo as musical director. “I worked with them well in Cebu kaya sila uli ang kinuha namin dito to make sure we have another great show.”
“Hey Matteo” is produced by a couple friend of his, Steve and Shy Vesagas, who also do triathlon like him. Direk Rowell has nothing but praises for Matteo.
“He does everything with a passion. The first time I worked with him, he was only 13 and he always puts his heart in what he does. He really works hard and gets better and better.”
“I’ve always loved music,” says Matteo. “Which is why I took up musical theatre in college in the States. But when I got into showbiz after racing, napunta ako sa acting and it’s only now that I got time to really focus on music again after I had my first album. My new album will feature a new sound, it’s all about change, pursuing your passion and letting no one to stop you from doing it. My sound now is more of 90s pop rock, live band sound.”

His second album has nine original songs and the carrier single is ‘Hey’. “It has just been released on MOR. Singer-songwriter Top Suzara has written songs for me and also some Cebuano composers. Each song has a story, a significant meaning for the millennials out there. Other great songs in it are ‘Huwag Ka nang Umuwi’, ‘The Other Half’, ‘Change’ and ‘Take a Chance’.”

The annual Star Magic Ball is just around the corner. Will Sarah be his partner? “I’m hoping. Sana, payagan siya. Pero kung hindi, I will go solo.”
