“I’m doing well, thanks to God who is so good,” she says. “I finished my last chemo last year and I’m on maintenance now. I have CitiScan every 6 months. It’s my third bout with cancer. The first was with my cervix, then my colon, and third was colorectal. I’m so blessed that many people are praying for me and that Canada, British Columbia has the third best cancer research in the world and I don’t pay anything. I’m now working with the Canadian Hereditary Agency for cancer research. They’ve detected the lynch syndrome, which is the defective gene in the Albert family that affects the female reproductive organs and the colon more.”
She has two daughters, Trixie and Marge. Trixie writes screenplays and plays rugby for the Lady Volcanoes. “She’s also participating in the Bike to Conquer Cancer event in August, where they’ll bike from Vancouver to Seattle,” Joey adds. “Marge naman is finishing her master’s degree in Biology. Because of what I went through, our whole family is now closer with each other and with God. We fought it as a family. In your weakness, God becomes your strength. I learned to embrace my vulnerability and not to be afraid to surrender everything to Him, our Creator.”
