The Two Talents Most Feared By Their Co-Contestants In 'The Clash': Mirriam Manalo & Anthony Rosaldo

“THE CLASH” no doubt has produced 12 very talented finalists who are all qualified to win. But when the clashers themselves were asked who they think is the biggest threat among them, a lot of them pointed to Mirriam Manalo from Pampanga. They say she sings with a lot of heart and gives new interpretations to familiar songs.

We ask Mirriam later how she feels about this. “I was so surprised,” she says. “I didn’t expect na ganun ang tingin nila sa’kin. But siempre, I’m flattered and also got more inspired now.”

Mirriam was only 18 years when she was contracted as a singer in a top hotel in China and she sang in their branches in Guangzhou, Guilin and Shenzhen near Hongkong. Her favorite singer is the late Aretha Franklin. Now 26, she is currently four months pregnant.

“When I joined ‘The Clash’, di ako buntis. My boyfriend and I have been trying to have a child noon pa, pero walang nangyayari. Tapos, when I least expected it dahil nasa competition na ako, doon ibinigay. I agonized a lot kung itutuloy ko pa ang pagsali ko because maselan ang naging pregnancy ko. Yung first three months, talagang laging masama ang pakiramdam ko, so I took a lot of medicines para kumapit ang baby ko. And now, heto na kami, lucky charm ko ang baby ko.”

Mirriam is a mestiza beauty. “Lagi akong napagkakamalang si Shirley Fuentes or si Alma Concepcion. My mom is half-German. My boyfriend naman is a rugby player na half-Syrian, so curious kami sa magiging hitsura ng baby namin.”

The most promising among the males is Anthony Rosaldo, 25, who was a runner up in the Spogify
Singing Bae contest of “Eat Bulaga”. He started working at 18 as the member of a band called Fahrenheit. “We got gigs in Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. That’s where I got my training as a performer. I had to work early kasi I have 4 siblings and became a breadwinner. Gusto ko mang mag-college, wala akong pambayad ng tuition fee.”

His edge is that he performs with so much confidence and great showmanship. The moment he took centertage and started singing, you can see he has experience in performing before an audience before, unlike the other contestants who are obviously very raw and nervous.
