Mayor Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez Invites Everyone To Come To Tacloban For Their Happyesta Sangyaw Festival Up To June 30 With Nightly Concerts & Parade Of Lights

THE MONTH OF JUNE is very significant for the city of Tacloban as that’s when they celebrate their Charter Day, their 65th Anniversary this year. It was officially proclaimed a Chartered City on June 20, 1952 by then Pres. Elpidio Quirino. The late House Speaker Daniel Z. Romualdez sponsored the law that converted Tacloban into a Chartered City.

Tacloban Mayor Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez led the Charter Day festivities. Under her administration, Tacloban is now one of the most competitive cities in the country, poised for more progress and development with the entry of more investors. It’s experiencing a business boom which is transforming Tacloban, the lone Highly Urbanized City in Eastern Visayas, into one of the most viable cities in the entire country today and what they call “home of the happiest people in the world!”

Tacloban is also all geared up for the month-long Sangyaw Festivities and Mayor Cristina aka Kring Kring is inviting all foreign and local tourists to visit Tacloban and be part of their ongoing Happyesta Sangyaw Festival that is a celebration of the unique traditions, culture and creativity of Taclobanons.

To entertain everyone, there are music events every night featuring various singers and bands, most of whom are coming in from Manila, like Jovit Baldivino, Basti Artadi, TJ Monterde, Ex Battalion, Siakol, Itchyworms, Better Days, Mayonnaise, Jensen & the Flips, Marc Abaya and Kjwan, Daybreak, Cueshe and, on June 30 they will have the Battle of the Bands with the Freestyle as guest. San MIguel Brewery, Globe and Smart will each have their own special nights of entertainment.

There are also sports events every day. There will be jetski and pedicab races, chess, frisbee, dart and dance tournaments, fishermen’s sports competition, volleyball, golf and sepak takraw tournaments, a Mr. Sangyaw Tacloban bodybuilding competition on June 28 and a beauty pageant searching for Miss Tacloban 2018. The winner last Friday at the coronation night, with Pops Fernandez as special guest, was Cassandra Marie Lee. Some of the other contestants who shone in the pageant are Pauline Carisma, Patricia Labugin, Ivy de Mesa, Cristine Jara, Ashley Ponce, Kim Ruedas, Angel Gregorio and Ruth Marie Gavane.

The shows will be held at their Sangyawan Concert Grounds and on June 27, this Wednesday, Mayor Cristina’s own eldest daughter, young recording artist Sofia Romualdez of Viva, will own the stage with her show. Her guests are La Familia, Daniel the Rice Cracker, Deadkey and Denial, DJ Ken, Yssa and Supremo Band. Sofia was also the special performer at the formal opening last Thursday of Tacloban’s newest hotel, Summit Hotel, located right beside Robinsons Place in Marasbaras. The fiesta’s highlight is the spectacular annual Sangyaw Parade of Lights around the city on June 30. So come to Tacloban and enjoy with us. See you there!!!
