Enrique Gil As Lakas In 'Bagani' And How It Feels To Be Separated From Liza Soberano Who's Doing 'Darna' On Her Own

ENRIQUE GIL is not bothered by detractors who say he’s too mestizo to play the role of a native warrior in “Bagani”. “The show doesn’t claim to be a true story representing our history,” he says. “As our writers say, it presents an alternative universe as this is a fantaserye. But we do aim to convey valid messages about hope and equality among the five warring tribes in the story.”

He and Liza Soberano are currently celebrating the 5th anniversary of their love team. They first teamed up in the movie “Must Be Love” in 2013 supporting the KathNiel tandem. The next year, they were launched in their own primetime soap, “Forevermore”, followed by “Dolce Amore”. They also did a string of hit movies: “Just the Way You Are”, “Everyday I Love You” and “My Ex and Whys”. Now, they’re together again in “Bagani”.

“This is the hardest and the best show na nagawa namin,” he says. “You can see the concept is very fresh at grabe ang gastos dito sa sets, sa costumes. ABS has really come up with a show that is of epic proportions. I play Lakas, isang taga-disyerto. I’m an outcast kasi my parents were branded as traitors when they’re just standing up for what they believe is right.”

His parents are Albert Martinez as Agos and Ana Abad Santos as Lila. Lakas works for Christian Vasquez as Dakim, the leader of the Desert tribe who plans to attack and conquer the Farm Region, where Liza as Ganda belongs. Eventually, the paths of Lakas and Ganda will cross but they are like star-crossed lovers since they belong to different tribes.

What can he say now that Liza is going solo in “Darna” and as a fan complains: “Pinaghihiwalay na sila ni Quen.” “Wala namang masama if we do solo projects,” he says. “We’ll still support each other. We both have to grow rin naman as solo artists. I did ‘Seven Sundays’ last year and she’s very happy for me kasi nga I even got nominated as best supporting actor for my role in that movie. So I’m very happy for her that she is doing ‘Darna’. I’m sure it will be successful and she’ll be one of the best Darnas ever.”
