Vice Ganda's Filmfest Entry Is Called Trash By His Detractors But Has Earned P400 Million To Prove That Yes, May Pera Sa Basura

OF THE EIGHT official entries in the current Metro-Manila Filmfest, there’s only one movie that we didn’t bother to watch anymore: “Gandarrapido, The Revenger Squad”, simply because everyone discouraged us. Some writers told us watching it is just a waste of time. Three writers told me they slept through it.

“Suwerte ni Vice Ganda na kumikita pa rin ang movies niya kahit hindi na nakakatawa ang style ng comedy niya,” says one writer. “Si Daniel Padilla, nasayang lang sa movie. Mabuti pa noong ang late Wenn Deramas ang nagdidirek kay Vice, at least, may funny scenes pa rin. Pero kay Joyce Bernal, wala. Wala yatang sense of humor si Bb. Joyce.”

But we’re sure Joyce and Vice couldn’t care less. They know their movie is critic-proof. Folks might lambast but people would still flock to it. After all, the movie is said to have earned P400 million so far and the next movie among the filmfest list of topgrossers, “Ang Panday”, is a faraway number two, having earned only one half of “Revenger’s” box office take.

“Sisihin ang masa viewers na mas gusto ng basura kaysa ng movies that will help uplit them,” says another writer. “And this proves once more that’s there truth to the saying na ‘MAY PERA SA BASURA’.”

To Vice’s critics and detractors, eat your hearts out. No matter what you say, the greater majority of the public chose to support his movie.
