Luis Manzano Is One Of The Best Achievements Of Vilma Santos, Now Hosts Yet Another New Show, 'I Can See Your Voice'

LUIS MANZANO is one of the best accomplishments of Vilma Santos that she can be proud of. Unlike other kids of top stars who also ventured into acting, Luis wisely chose to deviate and to concentrate on hosting and there’s no doubt that he is now extremely successful in this field. Truly a great achiever just like his parents.

Ate Vi can also boast that her son is one of the most amiable, most articulate, most endearing, most well bred celebrities in local showbiz today. He also has a wacky sense of humor and doesn’t mind making fun of himself. You can ask him about anything and your one question gets about five paragraphs of a reply.

He never dodges any question, including what is his reaction to what happened recently to his “In My Life” leading man, John Lloyd Cruz, and if it’s true he nixed working with ex-GF Angel Locsin in the new season of “Pilipinas Got Talent”.

This is what he says about JLC: “Buhay niya ‘yun, e. Ano ba ang ginagawa niyang masama? Wala naman. He was just enjoying himself. Nakikita ba nating may ginagawa siyang droga, ganyan-ganyan? Yung dirty finger, that, I would understand. Kaya nga siguro, that’s why he apologized kasi he has followers na mga bata and it may seem like a bad example. I understand. Pero aminin n’yo naman, ano ba ‘yung sobrang sama na ginawa ni Lloydie? ‘Yung bad finger, anong alam n’yong ginagawa ng ibang artista na mas masama pa, di ba? I’m not justifying, don’t get me wrong. But he will always have his fans who’ll be looking up to him.”

About working with Angel Locsin: “I just laid my cards sa management and what will be the healthiest option, what I believe would be best for the show. Basta kung anong sabihin ng management, gagawin ko. I’m just waiting for their answer. I don’t want to dwell on that kasi baka maakusahan pa akong ginagamit ko siya. May sarili siyang buhay so let her be.”

How does he feel being called the country’s Premiere Host? “It’s something I won’t claim. There are many who are capable, like Robbie Domingo who may even be a better version, and maybe I’m just one of them. I’ve done my fair share of hosting jobs, but I don’t like to host beauty pageants kasi makulit ako. Baka mamaya, I might make a joke with a candidate and people will misconstrue it then people will say I’m not a gentleman, so wag na lang.”

Doesn’t he miss acting? “I like hosting more kasi mas personal ang connection sa hosting. And I know I’m a much better host than an actor.”

But he won an award for “In My Life”. “Tsamba lang yun. Mas maraming magagaling sa akin na sa mata pa lang, kaya na akong kainin. At kung magso-soap ako, iba na ang working hours ngayon sa puyatan. E, sa hosting, I work inside a studio lang, mas maaga kaming natatapos.”

We think he’d be a good talk show host, considering how glib and quick thinking he is. “There’s a plan sa MYX, but I’d like to do it online para puedeng pilyo, naughty. As of now, happy naman ako hosting my latest show. Dito nga, ni hindi ako dapat naka-formal, casual lang ang getup ko rito.”

We were invited to the taping of the new mystery music game show that he is hosting, “I Can See Your Voice”, which originated in Korea. It will start airing this weekend at 9:30 PM, September 16 and 17, Saturday and Sunday. Every weekend, they will feature six secret songers (not singers) and a special guest star and co-host will guess who is the real singer (called SEE-nger) and who is the fake one (called SEE-ntunado.)

The guest star in the episode we watched is Lani Misalucha and we won’t tell you if she made correct guesses. Suffice it to say that her reaction when she found out who the real singer and the fake one are was really classic and so hilarious.

Helping Lani in making a choice are five so-called SING-vestigators: Angelina Quinto, Alex Gonzaga, Kean Cipriano, Wacky Kiray and Andrew E. There are three rounds: Stop Looks & Listen where a secret songer is eliminated just based on his looks; The Voice if Synching where two secret songers will be eliminated while lip synching; and I Like to Prove It, Prove It where the remaining songers will show evidence that they can really sing.

In the original Korean version, there are three hosts. But in the local one, Luis is the only one and, as expected, he does it ever so competently. But we tell him he now looks different, somehow.

“I gained weight. After I fractured my foot, di ako naka-workout and my mom told me nga, ang taba mo, ang pangit ng leeg mo. Remember, TV is a visual medium. Mag-diet ka nga!”

The title of his new show is “I Can See Your Voice”. What can he see in his current flame, Jessy Mendiola? “I can see my future in her. You know what, I’m still a hopeless romantic and I can’t wait to go home to my wife and child waiting for me.”

Does this mean they’ll soon face the altar? “You know, she’s only 24 and I know she has many plans, so I don’t want to be robbing her of her dreams. Bata pa naman siya.”
