“I really enjoyed doing ‘Manananggal’ kasi first lead role ko ito in a romantic movie,” he says. “People think horror movie ito because of the manananggal, but it’s really a dark romance, lalo na nang matuklasan ko na kung ano ang lihim ng pagkatao ni Ryza.”
How was it working with her? “We’ve worked before in ‘Magpakailanman’ kaya kilala na namin ang isa’t isa. Masarap siyang katrabaho kasi she’s dedicated to her craft. Napakatahimik niya but kapag take na, ang galing niya, madadala ka. Napakahusay niya rito as Jewel, the manananggal who is so sad and lonely because of her secret.”
He’s currently in “Mulawin Vs. Ravena” where he plays Aramis. “Ako eventually ang magiging tagapangalaga ng Sugo, si Almiro, who’s played by Derrick Monasterio. Aside from this, I’ve also started taping for a new family drama na may kakaibang concept, produced by a new company called Planet A, ‘Let the Sunshine In’, a very special story with a valuable message about saving our planet and the environment. Kasama ko rito sina Janine Gutierrez, Empress Schuck, Kiko Estrada, Lauren Young, Assunta de Rossi and Cherie Gil, directed by Paul Sta. Ana. I will also start shooting a new horror movie for OctoArts Films, to be directed by Joey Reyes.”
Martin has put up his own business, a bar at Tandang Sora in Quezon City called The Armory. So how is it doing? “We’re doing very well. We opened in May of last year and business is really good. May regular clientele na kami. When I’m not busy, I go there to mix drinks myself for our clients pero nakakapagod. We’re also thinking now of opening a branch in the south, sa Paranaque.”
