Martin Nievera Has A New Album & Concert, 'Kahapon... Ngayon', And Talks About What His Regrets Are In His Own Kahapon

MARTIN NIEVERA is celebrating his 34th anniversary in showbiz. He comes up with a special album, “Martin Nievera: Kahapon… Ngayon” with 12 classic Tagalog songs, a tribute to his OPM roots. “It started with ‘Saan Ka Man Naroroon’ which I have never sung before,” he says. “So we decided to dedicate the album to that era of harana love songs used as movie theme songs.”

We’ve listened to the album and it’s a must have. The other songs in it, all with new arrangements, are “Buhat”, “Bato sa Buhangin”, “Buhay ng Buhay Ko”, “Kastilyong Buhangin”, “Kapantay ay Langit”, “Paraisong Parisukat”, “Gaano Ko Ikaw Kamahal”, “Maalaala Mo Kaya”, “Ikaw”, “Hindi Kita Malimot” and the Visayan song “Usahay”. “I just have to include my version of ‘Usahay’ because I’m often invited to sing in Cebu,” he adds. “I feel so blessed that Cebuanos like me. It’s also my tribute to my lola, Lourdes Corrales, who’s a Cebuana, a mezzo soprano who has sung some of the songs in my new album.”

“Kahapon… Ngayon” is his 54th album for Polyeast Records and Polyeast boss Mr. Ramon Chuaying is very proud and happy that Martin has been loyal to them all these years. In line with it, Polyeast also presents a special concert, “The Best of Martin Nievera: Kahapon… Ngayon” at the Kia Theater on August 26, Friday. “All the songs that I’ve recorded in my 34 years in showbiz, I will try to fit them all in that concert,” says Martin. “My special guest is Noel Cabangon, who I’ve never worked with before. I told him to have his own version of ‘Be My Lady’. And I will also have the Divine Diva, Zsa Zsa Padilla. We’ll be accompanied by a big band, with Marvin Querido as musical director.”

Since the album and the concert is about his past and present, which of the things that happened in his “kahapon” continue to haunt him in his “ngayon”? “It’s spending more time with my children. I have two sons here and one in the U.S., and I wish I’ve been a more hands on father. Also, my failed relationship, although I’m very good friends with my exes, especially with Pops (Fernandez). We were just together in Las Vegas two weeks ago. We continue to support each other.”

Martin’s new album will be available at the Kia Theatre and he will later sign them during the meet and greet session. The concert is for the benefit of the Philippine Chinese Charitable Association and the Philippine Red Cross Quezon City Chapter who awarded Martin with plaques of appreciation during the concert presscon.
