Lui Andrada, business unit head who handles “Pinoy Boyband Superstar”, explains why they got Aga. “When we were casting the judges, we got Yeng Constantino who’s a singer-songwriter, Vice Ganda who’s a comedian and Sandara Park who’s with a girl group. Pero walang heartthrob when we’ll have contestants na parang heartthrob ang dating. Then we saw Aga sa Hongkong nung anniversary nila ni Charlene and siyang naisip namin.”
“I got tired of working din. Burnout,” says Aga. “Nag-enjoy ako having an ordinary life with my family. But then, I felt I’m still too young to retire. I just turned 47. Marami pa kong gustong gawin sa buhay. But I asked myself, ready na ba akong bumalik? Then this offer came so I thought baka ito na nga yung right project kasi it’s light, it’s different, walang masyadong pressure kasi hindi sa akin naka-focus dahil apat kaming judges. And it’s also a way of giving back kasi I’ll help mentor the young boys in the show. At alam ko namang aalagaan ako ng ABS, so I’m happy to be back with them.”
Is it true he’ll also be doing a movie with Lea Salonga? “Sana. I’m taking it one step at a time. Making movies is my passion and I’d love to do a movie for Star Cinema as I’ve done a lot of movies with them, so malapit sila sa’kin. Actually, they already gave me a script at excited na akong basahin yun. When my schedule permits and gayundin si Lea, why not, we’ll do it.”
But he’d still want to lose some weight. “Yes, weight issues. Noon kasi, feeling ko, bakit kailangan kong mag-diet walang namang project na magcha-challenge sa’kin. Sobrang na-enjoy ko ang normal life na matutulog ka, then gigising ka na wala kang iniisip na gagawing commitment at all. Naging ganun ang buhay ko for 3 years. But now, it’s time to work again. Excited nga si Charlene and our twins, who are turning 15 this year. My daughter, gustong manood ng first taping day ko.”
His son Andres is so good looking and already gained fans in Facebook. Will he join showbiz? “Ako na unang magsasabi, guwapo talaga anak ko. Sabi ko, what happened to you, sobrang guwapo. And he’s such a nice boy. When people say parang sina James Reid o Daniel Padilla, pati ako kinikilig. Pero parang hindi niya feel mag-artista. Gusto namin ng wife ko, mag-aral muna sila. Magtapos ng college and if they really want to join showbiz, okay lang, but not now. Studies muna.”
