Gilas Pilipinas Fights Turkey Team This Friday, July 1, To Prepare For The FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament


PINOY BASKETBALL FANS have reason to be excited as the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament comes closer. After a victorious tune-up game against the mighty Iranian contenders last June 8, Gilas Pilipinas is set for another action filled Road to Glory home court tune up game against one of Europe’s best basketball teams – Turkey. The Turkish team is one of the strongest FIBA OQT contenders at number 8 in the FIBA World Ranking. The Gilas and Turkey face-off is set today, Friday, July 1, 7PM at the Mall of Asia Arena and will be aired live and exclusive on TV5


This is another chance for Gilas Pilipinas to gauge their strength as a team before they get into the real hard court action with some of the strongest and biggest international basketball teams to compete in the FIBA OQT. After a series of tune up games and after revealing the final 12 to represent the country in the FIBA OQT, the country’s very own Gilas Pilipinas is joining the other qualified countries in the quest for Olympic honors, to be played in two other venues – Turin (Italy) and Belgrade (Serbia).

The whole world will be watching and the Philippines will be in the spotlight come July 5-10, 2016 for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament live at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Playing in Manila are teams France, Canada, Senegal, New Zealand and Turkey. The mighty Gilas team will be playing its biggest and most challenging games as it tries to grab that most coveted spot for the Men’s Basketball event in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
