Saying Goodbye To 'American Idol' After 15 Years

AFTER 15 years, “American Idol” had its final telecast a few days ago. It’s the forerunner of other shows like “The Voice”, “America’s Got Talent”, “X Factor”, etc. The last few years saw the viewers losing interest in it, resulting to lower ratings and less sponsors, so it’s not surprising that it has to fade away.

The winner in the final season is Trent Harmon, a country singer from Mississippi. And like a lot of other previous winners, he seems to be headed back to oblivion. Honestly, runners up La Porsha Renae and Dalton Rapattoni have more promise and look more like they can make it bigger commercially.

Some of the show’s previous winners are Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Scotty McCreery, Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, David Cook, Fantasia Barrino, Kris Allen, Lee Dewyze, Phillip Phillips, Nick Fradiani, and Jordin Sparks. But none of them made it really BIG. To tell the truth, some of them, you can’t even recall anymore.

Ironically, it’s the non-winners who were able to cultivate more successful showbiz careers, like Jennifer Hudson who even won an Oscar for “Dreamgirls” and did several other movies and TV shows, and Katharine McPhee who bagged the female lead roles in hit TV series like “Smash” and the current “Scorpion”.

One of the biggest treats of “Smash Season 2” is watching Jennifer and Katharine do some great musical numbers together. It’s just like Starstruck, where the biggest discovery is actually a reject, Alden Richards, whose vast popularity today has yet to be achieved by any of the past winners.
